Chest Freezers

Chest Freezers are a great way to store a large amount of frozen goods in an efficient way.  All of our chest freezers or deep freezes have glass tops so that products can be seen and displayed ready for customers to select before opening the top.  These units are all high quality commercial freezers suited to retail and high use applications.  Our chest freezers are available in a range of sizes for short or medium term hire.

Key Considerations

Chest freezers are essential for preserving the freshness of frozen items, allowing you to serve a variety of dishes. When hiring a chest freezer it is particularly important to ensure it meets your specific needs and facilitates efficient freezing and storage of food items. First of all, determine the size and storage capacity of the chest freezer in terms of liters to accommodate the volume of frozen food you plan to store. Check if the chest freezer has adjustable temperature controls and make sure it can maintain the desired freezing temperature for different types of frozen items. Check if the chest freezer has baskets to help organize and separate frozen items efficiently. Lastly, verify that the venue has the necessary electrical connections and voltage to support the chest freezer’s power requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I choose the right type of freezer to hire for my event?

There are several factors to consider in order to make the right freezer selection for hire. Firstly, you need to know what sort of foods and drinks will be served at the event, and which need to be kept frozen. For example, certain items like ice cream or ingredients for cocktails may require specialised equipment to maintain their quality.

Secondly, you need to know approximately how many people will attend the event. That will give you a good idea of how much freezer space you need to accommodate all the food and drinks that will be served.

You also need to have an idea of how accessible your frozen products need to be to staff. Certain freezers, such as upright freezers with glass tops, are easily accessible and consumers can view the products, whereas a chest freezer might be more suitable for items that don’t need to be on display.

  • How long can I store food in a commercial freezer?

This depends on the type of food and the temperature at which it is stored, and how well it is packaged before being frozen. Most frozen foods can be safely stored in a commercial freezer for between 3 and 6 months, however certain foods are at their best in terms of texture and flavour when frozen for shorter periods of time.

  • Can I use a commercial freezer for private events?

Yes, our commercial freezers are available for hire for both private events and for commercial purposes.

  • What is the difference between a chest freezer and an upright freezer?

A chest freezer opens from the top and an upright freezer opens at the front. A chest freezer usually has more storage capacity than an upright one, however it may take up more space. The advantage of an upright freezer is that it can fit in smaller spaces, and there are models with glass fronts that can display produce to customers.

  • How much electricity does a commercial freezer use?

The cost of running a commercial freezer varies depending on many factors, such as the size, the model and its design, the temperature at which it is set, and where the freezer is located (it may not work as efficiently if it is positioned in a warm location, for example). It also, of course, depends on what you pay for power!

  • Can a commercial freezer be used outside?

No. It’s not recommended to use a commercial freezer outside as they are designed for indoor use only.

  • Is there a defrost cycle on a commercial chest freezer?

  • What is the optimal temperature range for a chest freezer?

The optimal temperature range for a chest freezer is between -18°C to -22°C.

  • What safety precautions should be taken when using a chest freezer?

It is important to take the following precautions.

    • Keep the area around the chest freezer clear of any flammable materials (paper, cardboard etc.), so as to avoid potential fire.
    • Ensure the freezer’s ventilation openings are kept clear and that there’s adequate airflow, otherwise there is a chance the equipment could fail to function properly.
    • Ensure any power cables to the freezer are out of the way and not trip hazards – rubber mats or cable covers may be required.
    • Don’t position the freezer in high-temperature areas, such as in direct sunlight or near woodfire ovens etc. This will make the freezer work doubly as hard and may reduce its energy efficiency and lifespan.
    • Avoid placing objects on top of the chest freezer, as they may slip off and create breakages and spills.
    • Ensure that the lid is properly closed when not in use, as if the freezer is not sealed, it may not keep items at their correct temperature.
    • Be wary of leaning your skin against the inside of the freezer, as it may result in freezer burn.
  • Can we move a piece of your equipment around in our venue?

Yes you can move our equipment as per your requirements. Note that, as the hirer, you bear responsibility for the equipment you hire from us from the time the equipment comes into your hands, whether that be when it is delivered to you, or when you pick it up from us. As part of our hire terms and conditions, if a piece of equipment is damaged whilst in your possession, you agree to pay any repair /replacement costs.

If you do need to move a freezer, it’s important to take appropriate care so that you don’t damage the equipment. See our next point for helpful tips.

    Tips for moving a freezer:

    • Consider the location of where you plan to move the freezer. As mentioned above, it’s important to avoid placing the freezer in high-temperature areas, such as close to ovens, or in direct sunlight. Also be sure there will be enough space around the freezer for ventilation, and ensure it isn’t pressed up against potentially flammable materials.
    • Clear the freezer of its contents before moving it. You want it to be as light as possible. This means removing all foodstuffs and shelving.
    • Defrost the freezer and give it a clean out if you are moving the freezer to a completely new location. (If you’re just moving it to another part of the room, this shouldn’t be necessary.)
    • Ensure doors to the freezer are sealed before you move an upright freezer. You don’t want them swinging out and becoming damaged.
    • Keep the freezer upright when moving an upright freezer. Placing a freezer on its side may damage internal components of the freezer.
    • Use a dolly to wheel the freezer to its new location. This will prevent damage to the base/legs of the freezer, and will help prevent injuries related to carrying heavy equipment.
    • Get help when moving a freezer! These are large pieces of equipment, so you should avoid moving them on your own.
  • What is your cancellation policy?

In order to confirm your booking we require payment to be made in full. Should a booking then be cancelled, we will issue a credit note for the full value.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all credit cards, as well as Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). When you contact us about hiring a piece of equipment, we’ll provide you with our payment details.
